SYDNEY, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A man has been arrested after two people were found dead at a home in Melbourne's southeast suburbs on Monday night.

Police officers discovered the bodies of a man and woman after being called to reports of a disturbance at the residence in Mount Waverley, 15 km southeast of central Melbourne, shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday night.

Following a major search involving the dog squad, a 34-year-old man was arrested at a nearby train station about 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at the crime scene later on Tuesday morning, Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said that police believe the 34-year-old arrived at the residence before the start of a dispute that resulted in the deaths.

"The message here is that it appears to be a targeted attack. Our suspect is known to the address," he said. "We are not looking for anybody else. It appears to be isolated."

The victims have not yet been formally identified.

Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw anything suspicious in the area on Monday night, to contact detectives.
