LAGOS, Nigeria - A spectacular collision on Saturday between an oil tanker and a water truck in the Nigerian state of Gombe, in the northeast of the country, has left ten people dead.
An official said the oil tanker exploded on impact damaging, and in some case destroying, numerous other vehicles and nearby houses. At least 10 people were burnt to death.
"The accident involved an oil tanker, which collided with a water truck along Yola road in Gombe. 10 persons were burnt beyond recognition while 16 others suffered varying degrees of burns," Sadiq Alkali, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, was quolted as saying by the Anadolu Agency.
Alkali said tthe 16 injured people were evacuated to various hospitals in Gombe state.
He added that dozens of vehicles and houses were also affected in the explosion.
