Pilots for Air Zimbabwe take a strike break

Melbourne News.Net
Thursday 9th September, 2010

Air Zimbabwe pilots have been involved in a pay strike, demanding to be paid a full wage.

Starting on Wednesday, the pilots began abandoning planes on the runway at Harare International Airport.

Since then the boycott has led to the national carrier cancelling all flights.

While pilots for Air Zimbabwe normally make $2,500 per month, the company has only been paying them $1,200, saying it could not afford the full amount.

Officials at Air Zimbabwe have blamed declining passenger numbers, debt and the economic crisis for the severe cut in pilot’s pay.
